ROCHESTER, NY - The Vassar College Men's and Women's Track and Field teams opened up Day One of the Liberty League Outdoor Track and Field Championships at the University of Rochester on Friday. The men sit in seventh after the opening competitions while the women are in sixth after day one.
Sophomore
Max Bergman sits in fourth place in the men's decathlon after the opening five events as Bergman was tied for second in the long jump at 6.31 meters and was fifth in the 400-meters in 53.72. Sophomore Faye Stevens is also fourth overall in the women's heptathlon as Stevens finished second in the 200-meters with a time of 26.98 and was fourth in the 100-meter hurdles in 16.59.
Two Brewers qualified for the women's 100-meter hurdles finals as freshman Jahmilia Dennis was third in an AARTFC time of 15.26 and junior Nora Jensen was seventh with a time of 15.80. Freshman Freja Niklasson turned in a strong time of 16.07 to finish ninth in the prelims. Sophomore
Jae Young Seo posted a time of 17.60 in the men's 110-meter hurdles.
Freshman Margaret McLaughlin crossed the finish line in 12th overall in the women's 400-meters with a time of 1:04.71. Junior
Darnell Worley was the top finisher in the men's 400-meters in a time of 51.76.
Three Vassar runners qualified for the women's 100-meters finals as sophomore Traci Francis was fourth overall in an AARTFC time of 12.43 along with junior Ava Novak posting an AARTFC time of 12.59 for sixth place. Senior Lola Perez-Fry took the final qualifying spot in 12.86.
In the women's 800-meters, sophomore Sophia Henderson qualified for tomorrow's finals as she finished fifth in a time of 2:21.15. Junior
Tim Jacques qualified for the men's 800-meters finals with an AARTFC time of 1:54.83. Novak also qualified for the women's 200-meters finals as she finished sixth in an AARTFC time of 26.00.
Niklasson and junior Laura Wong both qualified for tomorrow's final in the women's 400-meter hurdles as Niklasson was fifth in 1:08.63 and Wong was sixth in 1:08.90. Senior
Lukas Muzila broke the school record in the men's 400-meter hurdles as he posted a time of 57.81 and qualified for tomorrow's final with a fifth place finish.
Sophomore Anna Kaigle finished in a time of 12:32.01 in the women's 3000-meters steeplechase for Vassar while sophomore
Jason Cirrito recorded an eighth place finish in the men's 3000-meters steeplechase with a time of 9:57.28.
Freshman Lily Shimpach posted an AARTFC time of 40:27.08 in the women's 10,000-meters for a 12th place finish. Freshman
Arlo Rucker was the top finisher in the men's 10,000-meters with an 18th place finish in 33:22.02.
In the field events, sophomore
Jeremy Frank was tied for 13th overall in the men's pole vault at 3.98 meters. Novak was seventh in the women's long jump at 5.42 meters followed by freshman Jamie Eu in eighth at 5.38 meters and Perez-Fry in ninth at 5.34 meters.
The final day of the Liberty League Championships begins tomorrow morning at 10:30 a.m.Â
