10 Garner CSC Academic All-District in Cross Country and Track and Field

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY – The Vassar College Men's and Women's Cross Country teams and the Men's and Women's Track and Field squads had 10 student-athletes recognized for their hard work on Tuesday afternoon with Academic All-District honors from the College Sports Communicators.

Senior Tim Buchan, a Mathematics major, earns his first Academic All-District honor as the senior tallied his career-best time in the 6K at the Ron Stonitsch Invitational in 19:37.2 for a third place overall finish. Buchan crossed the finish line in 29th place at the Liberty League Championships and recorded a top-75 finish at the NCAA Mideast Region Championships. On the track, Buchan collected a first place finish in the indoor mile at the Crowell Open on December 7 and later went on to help the Distance Medley Relay finish sixth at the Liberty League Indoor Championships. Buchan later took home back-to-back fifth place finishes at the Ramapo Outdoor Invite in the 1500 meters and the 4x400 relay.

Senior Kai Chang, a Computer Science and History major, records his second All-District selection as Chang recorded several career-bests throughout the cross country and track and field seasons. Chang posted a career-best time in the 6K at the Ron Stonitsch Invitational in 20:05.5 for a ninth place finish followed by a lifetime best 26:15.4 in the 8K at the Conn College Invite. Cang posted a career-best mark in the indoor mile at Utica in 4:30.17 for a 15th place finish and followed it up with a first place finish in the 3000 meters at the West Point Tune-Up in 8:43.90. Chang closed the outdoor season with career-bests in the 10,000 meters at the Liberty League Championships for a seventh place finish and finished ninth in the 5000 meters at the AARTFC Championships with a personal-best of 15:02.36.

Sophomore Sean Miller, a History major, recorded an incredible season both on the cross country course and on the track during the 2024-25 campaign. Miller took home a 16th place finish at the Liberty League Cross Country Championships to earn all-league status and followed it up with a 16th place finish in a career-best 25:01.4 at the Mideast Regionals to qualify for the NCAA Championships. During the indoor track season, Miller collected numerous top-10 finishes before finishing fourth in the 800 meters, sixth in the mile and eighth in the 3000 meters at the Liberty League Championships. Miller went on to qualify for the NCAA Indoor Championships and recorded a 13th place finish to earn Second Team All-American status and became the first indoor track and field athlete to collect All-American honors. The sophomore later became the 800 meters outdoor champion at the Liberty League Championships in May and then earned the Regional crown at the AARTFC Championships in the 800 meters in a career-best 1:51.32.

Senior Jason Cirrito, a Mathematics and Physics major, collects back-to-back All-District selections after recording career-bests in both the 6K and the 8K during the cross country season. Cirrito placed 16th at the Ron Stonitsch Invitational with a time of 20:33.4 and followed it up with a strong mark of 26:16.5 at the Conn College Invitational. Cirrito finished 34th overall at the Liberty League Championships and earned a top-60 finish at the Mideast Regionals. Cirrito also set new career-best marks during the track season as he raced to an 18th place finish in 4:29.56 in the mile at NYU. He later finished second at the West Point Tune-Up in the 3000 meters in a career-best time of 8:47.73. Cirrito closed the outdoor season with a personal-best time in the 1500 meters at the CGA Spring Invite and posted a career-best time in the 5000 meters at the Liberty League Championships with a 14th place finish.

Senior Jose Magana, a Political Science major, earns his first career All-District honor as he holds the 1500 meters school record for the Brewers. Magana set a new personal-best in the 4k in 12:30.4 at the Vassar Season Starter and then posted a career-best time in the 8K at the Conn College Invitational. Magana earned All-Liberty League status after a 12th place finish at the Cross Country Championships and then recorded a 31st place finish at the Mideast Regionals. Magana earned top-10 finishes in the mile, 4x400 relay and the Distance Medley relay at the Liberty League Indoor Championships. The senior closed the outdoor season with two top-10 finishes at the Liberty League Outdoor Championships and recorded a career-best time in the 5000 meters. Magana reset his own school record to end his career with a time of 3:54.23 for a seventh place finish at the AARTFC Outdoor Championships. 

Sophomore Haley Schoenegge, an Economics major, scores her first All-District selection as she put together another historic year for the Brewers. Schoenegge raced to a national-runner up finish at the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships with a time of 20:58.2 for the best finish in Vassar history and helped lead the team to a 20th place team finish, which also was a new program-best finish. The sophomore has put together a record-breaking season as she also earned the Liberty League individual title with a course record and Liberty League Championship record time to lead the Brewers to back-to-back crowns. Schoenegge walked off the track with her second career National Champion title and first indoor title in the mile at the 2025 NCAA DIII Indoor Championships, going 4:47.04, positioning her No. 11 on the NCAA DIII all-time list. Earlier in the season, Schoenegge won the mile in 4:52.77 and anchored the distance medley relay in 12:06.97 for another ten points at the 2025 Liberty League Indoor Championships. Both times stand as new meet records at the league championships. Schoenegge put together another record-breaking day at the NCAA Outdoor Championships as she earned back-to-back outdoor national crowns in the 1500 meters as she outpaced the next closest finisher by almost three seconds and tallied a 67 second final lap to pull away for her second national title. The sophomore continued her illustrious career with First Team All-American honors in the 5000 meters with a time of 16:36.19 to finish fifth overall on the track at SPIRE Institute.

Sophomore Adelaide Nyhan, an Environmental Studies major, collects her first All-District honor as she recorded career-bests in the 3k, 5k and 6k during the cross country season in 2024. Nyhan posted a new personal-best 3k mark at the Vassar Season Starter followed by a fifth place finish in the 6K Ron Stonitsch Invitational. Nyhan earned All-Liberty League First Team honors with a fifth place finish in 22:07.1 and went on to post a career-best time of 21:55.9 to finish 16th at the Mideast Regionals and helped the team qualify for the NCAA Nationals. Nyhan medaled in three Liberty League Indoor Championship events as she posted career-best marks in the mile and the 3000 meters to finish third in the 3000 and fourth in the mile and the 800 meters. Nyhan later posted a personal-best time in the 5000 meters at the Sean Collier Invitational and collected three more top-five finishes at the Liberty League Outdoor Championships, including a PR in the 800 meters. Nyhan closed the season witha  third place finish in a career-best time in the 1500 meters at the AARTFC Outdoor Championships.

Senior Faye Stevens, a Biology and Science, Technology and Society major, earns her first CSC Academic All-District honor following a strong indoor and outdoor season for Vassar. Stevens posted a career-best time in the 400 meters for a 10th place finish at the NYU Invitational before collecting three top-four finishes at the West Point Tune-Up. Stevens finished third overall in the pentathlon at the Liberty League Indoor Championships and recorded career-bests in the 60-meter hurdles and the high jump. Stevens followed it up with a career-best pentathlon score of 3155 at the AARTFC Championships and tallied two more career-bests. Stevens collected first place finishes at the Trinity Invitational and the Vassar Invite before closing her career with a career-best finish in the heptathlon in second place overall with 3950 points.

Senior Noni Pattington, a Sociology major, posts back-to-back All-District selections after recording a ninth place finish at the Ron Stonitsch Invitational and later finished 20th overall at the Liberty League Cross Country Championships to earn All-League status. Pattington earned a top-50 finish at the NCAA Mideast Regionals and helped Vassar to its best finish ever at the NCAA Championships. The senior closed her career with two strong races as Pattington finished seventh overall at the Vassar Invite with a career-best time in the 1500 meters before finishing seventh in a career-best mark in the 5000 meters to medal at the Liberty League Outdoor Championships.

Senior Sophia Henderson, an Earth Science major, closes her Vassar career with her first CSC Academic All-District selection. Henderson posted a career-best mark in the 5k at the Ron Stonitsch Invitational to finish 11th overall and later recorded a career-best time in the 6k at the Paul Short Run. Henderson recorded new PR's in the mile and the 1000 meters at the Crowell Open and was part of the Distance Medley Relay that scored a Liberty League Indoor crown and set the new Championship record time. Henderson was also part of the 4x400 relay that medaled at the league meet and finished fifth overall in the 800 meters to earn a medal. Henderson closed her career by helping the outdoor 4x400 relay race to a sixth place finish at the Liberty League Outdoor Championships.
