Haley Schoenegge Garners 1500 Meters National Champion Honors; Earns First Team All-American Status in the 5000 Meters

First year is the first Vassar National Champion since Heather Ingraham in 2015

MYRTLE BEACH, SC - First year Haley Schoenegge won the first Vassar Women's Track and Field National Champion honor since 2015 on Saturday at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships as Schoenegge took home the 1500 meters National Champion title. Schoenegge also earned First Team All-American status in the 5000 meters with a fourth place overall finish.

Schoenegge led wire-to-wire in the 1500 meters final as she crossed the finish line with a personal-best time of 4:19.46 and defeated the next closest finisher by nearly 10 seconds to earn the first Vassar National Championship title since Heather Ingraham in 2015.

The first year also set the facility record by five seconds, which was set back in 2011. Schoenegge posted a 66-second final lap and her time is the ninth fastest time in Division III history while happening during Schoenegge's first ever Outdoor National meet and her first career top-eight finish in the NCAA Championships.

Schoenegge garnered her second First Team All-American honor in the 5000 meters to close the day as the first year crossed the finish line with a time of 16:55.41. She put together another incredible final lap with a 1:12.81 final 400 meters to jump from seventh place to fourth and clinch First Team All-American status.

Schoenegge closes her first year campaign as a two-time Outdoor Track First Team All-American, the Mideast Region Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year, Indoor Track Second Team All-American, Liberty League Indoor Track and Field Co-Rookie of the Year, Liberty League Cross Country Co-Rookie of the Year, Liberty League Outdoor Track and Field 1500 meters and 5000 meters Champion, Liberty League Indoor Track and Field 3000 meters Champion to go with numerous school, meet and facility records.
