Haley Schoenegge Tallies Second Straight Liberty League Rookie of the Week

First year set the new school record in the 1500 meters at the CGA Invite on Saturday

TROY, NY - The Liberty League announced its weekly award recipients for the week ending April 7th on Monday afternoon as Vassar College Women's Track and Field first year Haley Schoenegge was named the league's Track and Field Rookie of the Week for the fifth time this season.

Schoenegge earned her second straight Rookie of the Week honor as the first year was victorious once again for the Brewers and broke the school record in the 1500-meters at the Coast Guard Academy Invite with time of 4:37.56, breaking the school record time of 4:39.07 set in 2012 by Kelly Holmes.

Schoenegge concluded her first year indoor track and field season as the Liberty League Indoor Champion and school record holder in the 3000-meters. The first year also finished second in the mile in the Liberty League Championship and earned the First Track NCAA qualifying spot in Vassar Indoor Track and Field History. She was named the Liberty League Rookie of the Week three times during the indoor track and field season. Schoenegge earned Second Team All-American status in the 1 Mile Run at the NCAA Indoor Championships as she crossed the finish line in ninth place overall in 4:58.96. 

Schoenegge was also voted the women's cross country Co-Rookie of the Year as she put together an impressive rookie campaign in cross country for the Brewers as she helped lead Vassar to four first place team finishes. The first year was named the Liberty League Rookie of the Week four times this season and finished in a season-best third place three times this season, including in the Liberty League Championship which earned her All-Liberty League First Team honors. Schoenegge was the top finisher at the NCAA Mideast Regionals, crossing the finish line in 26th place and earning All-Mideast Region honors in her first year campaign. Schoenegge went on to place 100th at the NCAA Division III Championship, helping Vassar to a program-best 23rd place finish and posting the highest finish individually since 2019.

Vassar will return to action at the RPI Under the Lights meet beginning on Thursday evening in Troy.
