Ithaca, NY – The Vassar College Women's Swimming and Diving team continued its strong start to the 2024 Liberty League Championship with standout showings in Thursday's preliminary swims. Both the 'A' and 'B' 200-yard freestyle and 400-yard medley relay teams qualified for Thursday evening's 'A' Final.
Vassar started the morning session with a pair of strong swims in the 200-yard freestyle relay event. The 'A' squad of
Abigail McLaughlin (Denver, CO),
Alanna Muello (South Windsor, CT),
Addie Wiener (Maplewood, NJ) and
Maya Luongo (Katonah, NY) qualified fourth with a prelim time of 1:38.26.
The 'B' relay team of
Maleigha Vietti (Overland Park, KS),
Alejandra Robins (El Cerrito, CA),
Lilly Masters (Bloomfield Hills, MI) and
Bella Rippon (Hershey, PA) also turned in a strong swim with the sixth fastest time Thursday morning with a mark of 1:40.35.
To end the day, the 'A' 400-yard medley team of
Sarah Quintana (Chandler, AZ),
Anna Little (Irwin, PA), Robins and Wiener qualified second for the Brewers with a time of 3:57.20. The 'B' relay team of Rippon,
Lara Chebotarev (East Longmeadow, MA),
Vivien Li (Pittsburgh, PA) and
Quinn Hoagland (Colts Neck, NJ) was sixth fastest on Thursday with a time of 4:02.10.
Individually, Wiener was the second qualifier in the 200-yard freestyle after posting a prelim time of 1:53.94. Hoagland also made the 'A' Final for the Brewers with a Thursday morning time of 1:57.04. McLaughlin earned a spot in the 'C' Final on Thursday with a swim of 1:59.73.
Quintana and Little each had big swims for the Brewers in the 400-yard individual medley with each making the 'A' Final. Quintana took third in a time of 4:43.12 and Little followed closely in fourth in a time of 4:45.27.
Vassar featured five swimmers qualifying for the 100-yard butterfly final on Thursday, led by Robins who was fifth fastest with a time of 58.34 seconds. Li, Muello and
Stephanie Norris (Santa Barbera, CA) all qualified for the 'B' Final for the Brewers.
Thursday's Final's session is scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m.
