POUGHKEEPSIE, NY – Junior
Miles Takiguchi has been named to the 2022 CoSIDA Division III Academic All-District First Team for cross country/track & field, as announced by CoSIDA. The award is bestowed upon the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances in athletic competition and in the classroom. Takiguchi's First Team selection now puts him in consideration for Academic All-America honors, which will be announced on June 22.
A physics and mathematics major, Takiguchi posted a 3.91 cumulative GPA while being a member of both the Vassar cross country and track and field teams in 2021-22. After seeing the 2020 track & field and the 2020 cross country seasons canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Takiguchi roared back into action in fall 2021, posting five top-5 finishes in eight races during the cross country season. He finished second overall at the Liberty League Cross Country Championship – earning All-League First Team honors – before going on to a stellar Regionals performance.
Takiguchi garnered All-Region honors, finishing 10th overall and fourth as a team – the highest finish in program history – earning the squad's first-ever berth into the NCAA Championships. Vassar took 21st overall at Nationals as Takiguchi placed 141st in a personal-best time of 25:02.6. At season's end, he was named to the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team as an individual, in addition to the men's team being recognized.
During the 2022 outdoor track & field season, Takiguchi continued to excel, posting a victory in the 5,000-meter run at the Vassar Invitational. He went on to finish second in the 10,000-meter run at the Silfen Invitation in a Vassar program record time, before taking ninth overall in the event at the historic Penn Relays. Takiguchi then garnered All-League First Team honors, winning the 10k in a meet record time of 30:13.51 at the Liberty League Championships.
A multiple Liberty League All-Academic selection, Takiguchi – who was a regional qualifier in multiple events – finished the season with a third-place finish in the 10k at the All-Atlantic Region Track & Field Championships. He owned the 23rd-best time amongst all Division III runners in the 10k event.
