SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY – It was a solid effort on the day despite rainy conditions on Fish Creek as the Vassar men's and women's rowing teams competed against Skidmore, Franklin & Marshall, RIT and William Smith on Saturday.
In the women's event, the Varsity Eight, the Brewers finished fifth overall with a time of 8:05. Vassar was narrowly outpaced by race-winner Skidmore (7:21), William Smith (7:23), RIT (7:31) and Franklin & Marshall (8:00).
Navigating the varsity eight was rookie coxswain Abigail Straus, rookie Sarah Winickoff, sophomores Sarah Dumaresq and Clare Mitchell, rookie Anna Bishop, junior Birky Cook, rookies Rebecca Middlen, Posey Whidden and Cayla Kallman.
On the men's side, the varsity eight took third overall with a time of 6:53. The Brewers trailed only RIT (6:32) and the RIT 'B' crew (6:48). Vassar bested the host Thoroughbreds (6:57). Making up the crew for the V8 was sophomore coxswain

In the men's varsity four race, the times were unfortunately not captured, but the order of finish saw Skidmore win, followed by Vassar and Franklin & Marshall in second and third, respectively. Navigating that crew was Fassler (coxswain), along with Huddleston, Angles, Winkler and junior
Bela Arwen.
Both Vassar teams are back in action next Saturday, traveling to Clinton, NY to compete in the Hamilton Regatta.
