TROY, N.Y. - The Liberty League has announced its weekly honor roll recipients and four Vassar College student-athletes were recognized.
Jack Rothenberg from men's basketball,
Sarah Quintana from women's swimming and diving,
Tim Buchan from men's track & field and
Ava Waters from women's track & field were all highlighted after solid performances last week.
Rothenberg led the Brewers men's basketball team to a come from behind road victory over Ithaca 75-73 on Friday as he led the team in scoring with 21 points, going 6-of-12 from the floor and 9-of-10 from the free throw line. He also added nine rebounds with two assists in 34 minutes played for the Brewers. The senior added 12 points to go along with five boards, three assists, a block and a steal in the road 75-64 loss against Hobart on Saturday and played 31 minutes in the contest.
Quintana had a fantastic weekend, helping the Brewers to a third-place finish at the Bombers Invitational. She opened with 11th in the 500-free in 5:19.45 and then helped the 200-medley relay to second overall in 1:48.55. She then took fourth in the 400-IM in 4:50.17. Quintana then paced the 400-medley relay to third in 4:00.01, followed by fifth in the 100-back in 59.43. In the 800-free relay, she helped VC to third in 7:53.13. Quintana than posted third in the 200-back in 2:09.49 and 400-free relay in 3:36.00.
In the program's first-ever indoor track and field meet at the Crowell Open (at Division I Army), Buchan recorded a sixth place finish out of 21 runners in the 1 mile run against both Division I and III runners. The sophomore crossed the finish line in 4:34.33 and won his heat by 18 seconds. Buchan was also the second overall Division III finisher in the race.
Waters was the top DIII finisher in the 800 meters, finishing second overall behind University of Albany's Alesia Douglas at the Crowell Open at Division I Army. The senior finished her impressive race in the 800 meters with a time of 2:31.50 for the second place overall finish and beat three Division I runners.
Vassar's men's basketball team is back in action on Tuesday when it hosts Union College at 7:30pm at the AFC Gymnasium. The women's and men's swimming & diving teams return to action on January 11th in meet action at Trinity (CT) at 2pm, while the Brewers men's and women's track & field programs are back in action on January 28th when they compete at the Blue and Orange Invitational at Utica College.
