TROY, N.Y. - The Liberty League announced its weekly honor roll recipients on Monday afternoon and three Vassar student-athletes were recognized for the week ending October 2nd. Senior
Miles Takiguchi (Portland, OR) from men's cross country, senior
Eric Wnorowski (Mantoloking, NJ) from men's soccer and junior
Claire Karlin (Arlington, VA) from women's soccer were all highlighted for their stellar performances this week.
In Friday afternoon's race that included Division I and II schools, Takiguchi shattered the program record by 22 seconds and finished 12th overall out of 403 runners at the Paul Short Invitational. The senior raced around the 8K course at Lehigh University in 24:22.0, breaking the previous record of 24:44.2 and was the fourth overall Division III finisher in the Paul Short Brown race. Takiguchi has been the top finisher for the Brewers in all four meets and has been the overall winner twice.
Wnorowski was outstanding last week, helping the Brewers extend their winning streak to four straight with two more shutout wins in league action. He opened the week with a three-save effort as Vassar posted a 2-0 road win at Bard. Wnorowski then made one save to record his fourth shutout of the season (and second straight) in a 1-0 win over Union. The Brewers have won four straight contests and have not allowed a goal in conference play.
Karlin helped lift the Brewers to a 7-0 win over Bard last week, recording not only her first career goal, but also notching her first career hat trick in 55 minutes played. All three of her shots found the back of the net. She then played 54 minutes in a tough 1-0 loss at Union on Saturday. For the week, the Brewers went 1-1-0.
Cross Country is off this week before returning to action next Saturday at the Connecticut College Invitational. Men's soccer (7-3, 3-0 LL) will travel to Skidmore on Saturday in a Liberty League matchup and women's soccer (5-3-2, 2-1 LL) takes on Russell Sage at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday at Gordon FieldÂ
