POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Liberty League announced its first weekly awards for the fall season, and Vassar field hockey snagged two performers of the week. Junior Ella Pearl (San Francisco, CA) was named the offensive player of the week, while sophomore Hailey Brigger (San Diego, CA) earned rookie of the week honors. Senior Sophie McGrath (Yarmouth, ME) also picked up an honor roll selection.

Pearl led the Brewers in total points with seven in Vassar's 3-0 week. She totaled three goals and one assist. In the season-opener against Smith, Pearl kept the pressure by taking 11 shots, with six on goal. She eventually scored at the 33rd minute off a deflection to make it 3-0. Then in the Betty Richey Championship game, Pearl scored twice off two corner insertions and added an assist late in the game. Pearl was named to the all-tournament team for her performance. Pearl also currently leads the Liberty League in shots (23) and shots on goal (14).

Brigger proved to be the Brewers' top passer last week, dishing out three assists and scoring one goal for five points. Against Smith, Brigger assisted on the game's second goal from the corner attempt and then netted the fifth goal for the 5-1 win. Brigger assisted again in the 1-0 win against Marywood. In the 5-3 win over Stevens, Brigger assisted on the game-winning goal. She also was named to the Betty Richey All-Tournament Team.

McGrath played every minute of all three games, scoring twice and adding a defensive save against Marywood. She netted the eventual game-winner against Stevens in the Betty Richey Championship game and was named tournament MVP for her performance.

The No. 18 Brewers next travel to Danbury, CT, to face Western Connecticut State on Wed. Sept. 8 at 7:30 p.m.
