CAMBRIDGE, MA (March 6, 2015) – MIT took two of three in doubles, and earned four singles victories to clinch a 6-3 dual match victory over Vassar Friday evening. The Engineers move to 4-0 on the season with the win, while VC drops to 4-4 on the year.
In doubles, juniors Christian Phelps (Eau Claire, WI/Eau Claire Memorial) and Evan Udine (Delray Beach, CA/Boca Raton Community) earned a 9-7 win over Kenny Gea and Dennis Garcia to pick up a win in the No. 2 match for Vassar. VC dropped both the No. 1 and No. 3 matches, going into the singles competition in a 2-1 hole.
Sophomore Nick Litsky (St. Petersburg, FL/Shorecrest Prep. School) picked up his third consecutive win at No. 1 singles, besting Kevin Wang of MIT in a three set battle, 7-6, 5-7, 6-2. Phelps also notched a win at No. 3 singles, earning a 6-4, 6-4 win over Kevin Gea. The Engineers took the No.2 match and earned victories in matches 4-6 to clinch the team win.
VC will be back on the courts tomorrow to face Babson College at 5:00 pm.
