Men's Tennis Battled Tough Matches But Fell To #20 Cal Lutheran 7-2

    THOUSAND OAKS, CA (March 11, 2014) – The Vassar College men's tennis team despite playing to a 7-2 loss to nationally-ranked California Lutheran University on Tuesday morning, showed promise against the #20 team in the country.

    Sophomore Evan Udine (Delray Beach, FL/Boca Raton Community) picked up his first win against an opponent from a nationally-ranked team in his college career. He defeated Sean Handley 7-5, 6-3 at No. 5 singles. Sophomore Christian Phelps (Eau Claire, WI/Eau Claire Memorial) earned a No. 3 singles win against Connor Treacy 6-4, 6-2.

    No Brewer, either in singles or doubles, left the courts with a scoreless set. Freshman Nick Litsky (St. Petersburg, FL/Shorecrest Preparatory School) was the only Vassar player to go to a third set tiebreaker. He was defeated by Alex Nichols 6-1, 2-6, 10-3 at No. 2.

    The doubles team of Litsky and junior Christian Lyon (Berwyn, PA/Conestoga) at No. 2 had a close but upsetting 8-5 loss to Moises Cardenas and Fergus Scott.

    The Brewers will next face a familiar face in the University of Rochester on Friday, March 14 at 11:00 am Pacific Time.
