POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (December 8, 2014) - Senior Luka Ladan (Belmont, MA/Belmont) and freshman Tony Caletti (Mill Valley, CA/Branson) of the Vassar men's basketball team were named to the Liberty League Team of the Week Monday afternoon after both posted career-best performances against Hamilton on December 6. The pair gives the Brewers their first two selections of the season to the conference's weekly honors, and VC becomes only team to produce both the Performer and Rookie of the Week in the same week this season.
Ladan leads the Brewers in scoring with 14.0 PPGLadan earned his first career selection as the Liberty League Performer of the Week after scoring a career-high 27 points to help Vassar secure a 79-74 OT victory over previously unbeaten Hamilton College on December 6. Ladan also made three assists and pulled down seven boards in the win, while 8 of his points came in the clutch during overtime. Ladan currently leads the Brewers in both scoring (14.0 PPG) and rebounding (8.7 RPG) this season.
Caletti was named the liberty League Rookie of the Week after scoring a career-high 18 points to help Vassar secure its victory over Hamilton on Saturday. Caletti converted a clutch 3 pointer to force the game into OT, while dishing out 4 assists in the victory. The freshman is currently averaging 7.0 points per game for the Brewers and is currently tied for the team lead in three pointers made (13).
Junior Colleen O'Connell was named to the Honor Roll for women's basketball after posting her best week of the season thus far, helping Vassar to a 1-1 week. Over the two games, O'Connell posted a pair of double-doubles, averaging 12.5 points and 12 rebounds, playing 33 minutes per game. Against Mount St. Mary, O'Connell scored 10 points and grabbed a season-high 13 boards. She followed that up with a season-best 15 points and 11 rebounds (6 offensive) against Stevens.
