TROY, NY (April 29, 2013) - Freshman women's tennis player Winnie Yeates earned another Rookie of the Week from the Liberty League as stated in an announcement by League Commissioner, Tracy King Monday afternoon. Sophomore teammate Sam Schapiro made the weekly Honor Roll.

Women's Tennis - Freshman, Winnie Yeates - Rookie of the Week

Yeates secured two wins against William Smith on Saturday for a Brewer, 7-2 Liberty League win. Vassar finishes their regular season with a 3-1 mark on the League. Yeates and fellow freshman, Lauren Stauffer defeated Hallsey Leighton and Casey Nicoletti, 8-5 at the No. 2 doubles spot. Yeates then revisited Nicoletti at the No. 3 singles spot for a decisive, 6-1, 6-0 win. Yeates finishes her collegiate debut regular season with a remarkable, 15-5 singles record (2-1 Liberty League) and a 9-8 doubles record with Stauffer (2-1 League).

Women's Tennis - Sophomore, Sam Schapiro - Honor Roll

Schapiro picked up crucial wins in doubles and singles during Vassar's 7-2 win over William Smith College on Saturday, rounding out their regular season with a 3-1 Liberty League record. Schapiro teamed with sophomore Ava Sadeghi for an 8-2 No. 1 doubles win against Teru Greene and Kelley Hartmann. Her most crucial win came when she defeated Hallsey Leighton, 6-2, 6-1 in No. 2 singles. Her win along with freshman Winnie Yeates' win in singles over Casey Nicoletti (6-1, 6-0) secured the match for Vassar. Schapiro rounds her second season with the Brewers out with a 20-6 singles record and a 19-4 with Sadeghi in doubles.
