Men's Tennis Drops Nail-Biter 5-4 To Swarthmore

CLAREMONT, CA (March 12, 2011) -- The Vassar College men's tennis team suffered a narrow 5-4 defeat by Swarthmore College on Saturday in its final match of the Stag-Hen Invitational.

The Brewers (6-6) face Tufts on the road on Saturday, March 26, at 1:00 p.m.

Vassar went down 2-1 after dropping two crucial doubles matches in tiebreakers. The Brewers collected three of the first four singles points for a 4-3 lead. At No. 1, junior Ben Guzick rolled on Stephen Youngblood 6-2, 7-65 and sophomore Andrew Guzick took out Zak Kelm by the same score at No. 2 singles. Senior Max Willner overcame an early deficit for a 1-6, 6-4, 6-1 win over Maxwell Bressman at No. 3 singles.

Swarthmore won the final two matches to ice the 5-4 win.
