POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (April 23, 2010) – While the individual fencing weapons have been stored away until next season, there was some unfinished business for both the Vassar College men's and women's teams.
The Brewers had a fourth place finish in the Northeast Conference with a 7-3 record and the women finished fifth at 8-4.
In a conference with 24 teams and nearly 400 fencers, several fencers on both the men's and women's teams earned All-Star honors.
First-Team All-Northeast Conference honorees on the men's side were freshman
Tavish Pegram who compiled a 24-4 record in the foil and sophomore
Nick Johnson, who was 19-4 in the epee.
The women placed two athletes on the Second-Team. Freshman
Katie Leclair earned honors after a 27-5 season in the foil and fellow junior
Sophie Courser was rewarded for her efforts following a 26-6 mark in the epee.
The men's team finished the 2009-10 season with an 18-11 record. Competing in his third straight NCAA Fencing Championship, junior
Andrew Fischl finished in 16th place in the sabre competition, his best result in three years competing in the prestigious event. On Sunday, Fischl went 4-5 and was 10-13 overall in two days of fencing.
The women's team finished 16-16 with Courser performing admirably in the NCAA Regionals and nearly earning a spot in the national championship event.
