Chloe McGuire led the Vassar women’s volleyball team to its third straight win of the season Wednesday evening, recording a match-high 10 kills in a 3-0 (26-24, 25-20, 25-13) victory over Sage College.
The Brewers, who have yet to lose a set in three matches thus far, will travel to Montclair State University for a 2:00 p.m. match against the Red Hawks on September 12. Sage, now 1-4, will compete in the Nazareth College Tournament on September 11-12.
McGuire capped a solid performance against the Gators by adding 13 digs, two solo blocks and five block assists. Junior libero
Chelsea Mottern earned a match-high 14 digs and added six aces.
In the first set, Vassar jumped out to a 6-3 lead before Sage tied the score at 8-8 and then 23-23 before the Brewers closed the set out. Vassar stormed ahead 9-3 to start the second set, but Sage mounted a comeback that put the hosts up 15-10. Vassar evened the set at 20-20 and won the final five points for a 2-0 match lead. The last set found the Brewers and McGuire in firm control of the match.
Sage junior outside hitter Sarah Peacock (Duanesburg, NY/Duanesburg) added eight kills and eight digs for the Gators. Senior hitter Kellie Jones (Troy, NY/Troy) added seven kills and six digs. Sophomore setter Kristyn Buonincontra (Shelton, CT/Shelton) had 19 assists and four digs.
