Women's Tennis Earns ITA Academic Awards

Krista Romita was one of six Scholar-Athletes from the 2008-09 team

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (August 21, 2009) – With a No. 21 national ranking and seven consecutive Liberty League titles, the Vassar College women's tennis team is clearly talented on the courts. The team's aptitude extends to the classroom as well, as the 2008-09 Brewers earned an Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Academic Team Award. Vassar has earned the award every season since it was first introduced, fourteen years ago. The award recognizes teams who hold a GPA of 3.2 or higher during the academic year.

Six Brewers earned individual ITA Scholar-Athlete honors, awarded to those students who maintain a GPA of 3.5 or higher for the academic year. Graduated seniors Krista Romita, Jamison Steele, and Alexis Jacobson, along with senior Nicole Pontee and sophomores Joy Backer and Jennifer Beckerman were recognized as Scholar-Athletes.
